Program overview

The Training Preparation Program for MEC is offered exclusively by Moodle Certified Partners around the world. Through this program, Moodle Educators get also the opportunity to become officially certified.

The educational program it covers all 22 Skills as defined by the European Commission in the “Digital Skills Framework for Educators” (DigCompEdu) and is structured around 6 courses: Professional engagement, Digital resources, Teaching and learning, Assessment, Empowering learners, Facilitating digital ability of trainees.

The educational content of the courses is currently available in English, with the videos having Greek subtitles. Level of knowledge of English at level B2 is sufficient. The communication with the facilitators and the submission of the tasks can be done either in Greek or in English.

The programme has been significantly revised recently, including new content on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on education.

Who it is for:

Training Preparation Program for MEC is aimed at education professionals who use or wish to use Moodle as part of their educational activity.

In addition to Primary, Secondary or Higher Education teachers, Training Preparation Programs for MEC are equally aimed at adult educators, Moodle course creators who want to have a solid educational foundation and company executives from Learning & Development departments.

The training content is available in English, with Greek subtitles for the videos. Communication with trainers and submission of assignments is either in Greek or English and the desired level of English is B2

The programme is designed to meet the training needs of both a new and an experienced Moodler.

Training Preparation Program for MEC is designed around the 22 digital competences of the DigCompEdu, adapted to a Moodle environment:

1. Professional engagement course

3.1. Teaching – Plan for, implement, experiment with and develop use of Moodle to enhance your teaching

Training Preparation Program for MEC Success criteria

In order to complete the first phase, the trainees must earn the 3 badges of the Intro, Advanced and Educational courses.

The assessment process in each course of the programme for MEC includes:
– 3 to 5 knowledge-self-assessment quizzes, one per skill (Candidate has an unlimited number of attempts and unlimited time on each of these quizzes)
– 1 scenario-based quiz (Candidate has two attempts in this quiz and a time limit for completion)
– A task where the trainee has to answer specific questions. It is customary for the answers to be documented with Moodle – course images created by the candidate and/or a URL with access rights so that the instructor can perform the relevant check. (The candidate may submit and update up to two times based on the instructor’s comments.
To successfully complete any of the MEC courses, candidates must pass each quiz with a minimum score of 80% and reach B2 (Specialist – Expert) level on the assignment.
Upon successful completion of each course, the candidate is awarded the corresponding badge.

MEC Candidate FAQ

How is the written work assessed at MEC?

MEC writing assignments are assessed with a rubric, based on the DigCompEdu rubric and linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1 (Newcomer), A2 (Explorer), B1 (User), B2 (Expert), C1 (Leader), C2(Pioneer).

What happens if a candidate does not reach 80% in all the quizzes?

If a candidate does not reach 80% in all the quizzes that assess their skills, they will not receive the corresponding course badge and will therefore not be eligible for the Moodle Educator certificate, even if they reach level B2 (Expert) in the assignment.
– The candidate may repeat the knowledge check quizzes – self-assessment quizzes as many times as required without limitation.
– If the candidate fails the second time in the scenario-based quiz, the facilitator will be contacted to give the candidate a third chance.

What happens if a candidate does not reach B2 level in a writing assignment?

This case happens only when the candidate do not meet the experience criteria by making well documented answers when submitting an assignment in a module, and automatically his facilitator may not accept it. If a candidate does not reach the B2 level in a writing assignment, they may update their submission twice, following the feedback from their facilitator. If they do not reach B2 level after this, they fail in that particular course, and consequently they will not be eligible for the Moodle Educator Certificate. However, they may still continue completing the other MEC courses. The next attempt in order to re-try, has the cost of re-registering in this module.

What happens if a candidate fails an MEC course?

If they fail one or more MEC courses they may still continue with the other courses, but will not be eligible for the Moodle Educator Certificate. If they want to receive the Certificate, they will need to pay again for and retake the particular course(s). They will need to complete this process within two years of starting the MEC.

Are there extra costs for MEC certificates?

In Moodle Partners’ leading training services there is a fixed charge of 200 Euro for the certificate issued by Moodle HQs. This fee of 200 Euros can be paid directly to Moodle HQs. Alternatively, if this amount is paid via WIDE Services, the charge is 250 Euros plus VAT.

What is the estimated time needed for each MEC course?

The exact time needed for the MEC depends on your teaching experience and Moodle expertise, but it is estimated that each course needs about eight hours to complete.

If a candidate receives all 6 badges, but does not pay the 200 (or 250 +VAT) Euros for the certificate, will he/she be considered certified for the MEC?

No. When the candidate completes their assignment, Moodle HQs staff will check and confirm that the assignment is ready for certification. They must then pay the certificate fee of 200 euros directly to Moodle HQs (or 250 euros plus VAT via WIDE Services) if they wish to receive the certification as well.

Are there any discounts for participation in the program?

Yes, there are discounts on registrations for groups registration (more than 5 participants) in the program. Additional discounts are for people with disabilities. For more details send us an email.
