MEC is designed around the 22 digital competences of the DigCompEdu, adapted to a Moodle environment:

MEC Candidate FAQ

How are MEC assignments assessed?

MEC writing assignments are assessed with a rubric, based on the DigCompEdu rubric and linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1 (Newcomer), A2 (Explorer), B1 (User), B2 (Expert), C1 (Leader), C2(Pioneer).

What happens if a candidate does not reach 80% in all the quizzes?

If candidates do not reach the 80% in all the quizzes that assess capabilities, they will not be awarded the course badge and consequently, they will not be eligible for the Moodle Educator Certificate, even if they reach B2 (Expert) level in both writing assignments. They may take these quizzes as many times as required.

What happens if a candidate does not reach B2 level in a writing assignment?

This case happens only when the candidate do not meet the experience criteria by making well documented answers when submitting an assignment in a module, and automatically his facilitator may not accept it. If a candidate does not reach the B2 level in a writing assignment, they may update their submission twice, following the feedback from their facilitator. If they do not reach B2 level after this, they fail in that particular course, and consequently they will not be eligible for the Moodle Educator Certificate. However, they may still continue completing the other MEC courses. The next attempt in order to re-try, has the cost of re-registering in this module.

What happens if a candidate fails an MEC course?

If they fail one or more MEC courses they may still continue with the other courses, but will not be eligible for the Moodle Educator Certificate. If they want to receive the Certificate, they will need to pay again for and retake the particular course(s). They will need to complete this process within two years of starting the MEC.

Are there extra costs for MEC certificates?

On top Moodle Partner services for training & facilitation there is a 200 Euro fixed fee for the Certificate generated by Moodle HQ. This fee may be paid directly to Moodle HQ or to the Partner.

What is the estimated time needed for each MEC course?

The exact time needed for the MEC depends on your teaching experience and Moodle expertise, but it is estimated that each course needs about eight hours to complete.

If a candidate gets all the six badges, but doesn’t pay the 200euros for the certificate, will they be considered as MEC certified?

No. When candidates complete their work, it is Moodle HQ staff that reviews and confirms that their work is ready to be certified. Thus the 200euros certificate fee.

Can I choose the MEC Certification process only and if I face difficulties to complete it, to proceed with an upgrade to the MEC Full pack? What will be the cost in this case?

Yes you can upgrade. The cost will be an additional 180 €.

Are there any discounts for participation in the program?

Yes, there are discounts on registrations for groups registration (more than 5 participants) in the program. Additional discounts are for people with disabilities. For more details send us an email.

MEC courses

In the Moodle Educator Certification, candidates have access to detailed information about the digital competencies that are the foundation of effective teaching practices in an online and blended environment.

The six MEC courses, matching the six groups of competences, are online, asynchronous and facilitated. In each course there is a quiz to evaluate each competence, and two writing assignments that give candidates the opportunity to reflect on what they have learned and how Moodle can support their own teaching practice.

MEC Success criteria

Assessment in MEC courses consists of one quiz per competence and two writing assignments. To successfully complete any of the MEC courses, candidates need to pass each quiz with a minimum score of 80% and reach level B2 (Expert) in both of the writing assignments.

MEC writing assignments are assessed with a rubric based on the DigCompEdu rubric and linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1 (Newcomer), A2 (Explorer), B1 (User), B2 (Expert), C1 (Leader), C2 (Pioneer).

Candidates have unlimited attempts for the quizzes, while they may submit and update twice their writing assignments, based on facilitator feedback.

MEC target audience

MEC is aimed at experienced Moodlers. Candidates are expected to have completed either basic training with a Moodle Partner or the Learn Moodle Basics MOOC, and have some experience in teaching with Moodle.

For your success in design challenges you will therefore be asked for screenshots of your courses (ready-made or new that you will design during the program) and / or url with access rights so that your facilitator can do the relevant check.
